Soundtracks as they are mixed on the dub stage are not automatically ready for every type of distributed media. A track destined for theatrical distribution must first be "print mastered" in order meet theatrical exhibition specifications.

Analog optical sound tracks do not have the fidelity or dynamic range of magnetic or digital media. The audio must first be print mastered in advance of optical recording to ensure that the frequency and dynamic range of the track matches the specifications for playback by theatrical equipment. Chace has over a dozen suites that can create technically perfect print masters needed for optical recording.

Audio destined for theaters equipped with Dolby® Digital (SR-D) playback must first be processed in a Dolby print master session by Dolby technicians. The Rick Chace Theatre is an ideal space for this work.

After print mastering, our Optical Recording Department can make the track negative to ensure that the audio will sound its best in the theater.
