New Services
At the Burbank location, Chace services continued to grow as its new production rooms were brought online. The first Sonic Solutions NoNoise® suite opened at the end of 1992. The Restoration Department at Chace has since restored and repaired audio on some of the world’s greatest film treasures including The Jazz Singer (1928), King Kong (1933), It Happened One Night, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Citizen Kane, Some Like it Hot, North By Northwest, Ben-Hur, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Taxi Driver.
The last audio suite built in this period came in 1994 with the establishment of the Preservation Transfer Department. In addition to a host of digital and analog recording capabilities, the preservation transfer room (Studio A) features a Sondor OMA SE-Chace; this custom designed, Swiss-built magnetic film dubber has special features that allow it to play back warped and distressed magnetic film. Tracks thought to be unplayable have been recovered with this equipment.
